Searching ClevelandRocks
The ClevelandRocks database is a category-style system. That means the
user can browse through pre-categorized lists of links in order to find
links. For example, searches can be made in categories such as banks,
adhesives, printing, radio stations, schools, etc. For those who prefer
specific searches, ClevelandRocks provides two search tools.
1.
Simple Search
On each
page you will find a search box for entering names or keywords. The database
will find and display a list of links that match the keywords entered
into the search box. The link name and description sections of each record
are searched in order to find the most relevant links.

A more powerful option is
Advanced Search. The user can search solely on the links, descriptions
or categories. Also, additional filters of location, ZIP Code or Area
Code can be used.

Search
Order and Rank
After your search
is entered, the first list that appears is based on relevancy. If your
keyword appears often in the link and description it will rank near the
top. But if the links have the same relevancy, then the list will appear
in alphabetical order.
Finally…
We hope
you will find that ClevelandRocks is a useful tool in identifying the
top-level links to Northeast Ohio businesses and organizations. But, what
if your search is fruitless? There are several possibilities.
First of all, the organization you seek may not have a Web site! Surprising
as that sounds it is true in the majority of cases. Most organizations
in Northeast Ohio do not have Web sites yet. ClevelandRocks has over 5,000
links in its database but there are over 100,000 businesses in Northeast
Ohio. True, more than 80% are small, “mom-and-pop” operations
but that still leaves 20,000 businesses that have five or more employees
but may not have Web sites.
Second, we decided not to include links to national or global organizations
that have local operations in Northeast Ohio, unless the Web site has
pages dedicated to local operations. That means many large companies,
with local operations like Ford, McDonald’s, and Coca-Cola, were
excluded. Others (like Sysco, which is headquartered in Houston) have
separate Web sites for their Northeast Ohio operations and so they are
included in the directory.
Third, our editors may not have added the link that you are seeking. In
that case, we hope that if you find that link through Google, or another
service, you will kindly add it to ClevelandRocks using our Add-A-Link
feature. This way our locally focused directory will become stronger through
your support.
